As a general rule, a discrepancy in limb length of more than 2 cm negatively impacts a person’s lifestyle. This  is an indication for surgical length correction
This correction is accomplished using the internal method, the same technique used for cosmetic limb lengthening in patients with short stature

Patient A had an 11.7 cm (4.6 in) discrepancy due to a gunshot wound to the thigh in 1984.  The patient’s surgery was complicated by extensive scarring caused by the gunshot wound and several previous surgeries in military hospitals

Result:  The patient achieved 11.4 cm (4.49 in) lengthening of the right femur

Leg functions were not affected after the operation
